Do you need a truck but you want to pay the full-size price? Do you need a truck but you’re not exactly hauling a bed full of boulders? Do you need a truck but you’re hoping to save on gasoline. Then why not get a truck that works like a truck, looks like a truck, and has full-size sensibilities but you want pay an arm and a leg to drive home or fuel? Say hello to the 2020 Chevy Colorado. This is the little truck that can, and this preview guide shows what’s new for 2020 and what’s been great all this time.
What’s New for 2020?
No major changes this year, but the 2020 Chevy Colorado is getting a few new features and upgrades. Ou favorite is the newly available remote-locking tailgate and the fact that the EZ-lift tailgate is now standard on LT models. The former allows you to lock your tailgate remotely, just as you would a door. And the latter reduces the effort to lift the tailgate even while it keeps it from slamming because it opened too quickly.
The other two new features is the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system on an 8-inch touchscreen, which replaces MyLink. The controls are easy to reach, the system is intuitive, and the layout is clean and neat. In addition, there’s a tire-fill alert that lets you know, as you’re filling the tires, when to stop adding air. This helps prevent blowing out a tire due to overinflation.
Towing and Hauling
Obviously, the 2020 Chevy Colorado is not going to tow as much as the full-size Silverado 1500. But the Colorado still puts up respectable numbers. When properly equipped, the 2020 Colorado tows up to 7,700 pounds and boasts a payload capacity of 1,578 pounds. By comparison, the Silverado 1500 tows a maximum 13,400 pounds and hauls 2,250 pounds. However, there are plenty of folks who will never need all that extra work capacity. For those people we say, go with the more affordable, more fuel-efficient Colorado.
Fuel Savings
With the base engine on the 2020 Chevy Colorado, you’re looking at getting 20 city miles and 26 highway miles per gallon. Compare that to the 16 city and 21 highway mpg of the 2020 Silverado 1500 and you realize you can save hundreds of dollars a year on fuel alone. And we haven’t even mentioned the difference in starting price yet.
You can save $7,000 over the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 by buying a new 2020 Chevy Colorado. That’s right. The Colorado starts at $21,300 while the Silverado is $28,300 at its most affordable. If you want the maneuverability, fuel-efficiency, and smaller footprint of a midsize pickup truck while still doing some big jobs, the 2020 Chevy Colorado is a great choice.
