The Chevy Camaro is one of those instantly recognizable sports cars. Since it debuted in the 1960s, the Camaro has been turning heads and flying down roads. This car doesn’t need much of an introduction, except to say that it’s a venerable yet modern muscle car. In this preview guide, we show you what Chevrolet is rolling out for the 2020 model year and why the Camaro is worth another look if you haven’t checked it out in a while.
What’s New for 2020?
The biggest news is the all-new LT1 model. Slotting between the LT and SS trim levels, this mid-tier model boasts an upgraded engine--the 455-horsepower V8--and driving upgrades like Brembo front brakes and a performance suspension. In most other ways the LT1 is mostly the same as the LT model, except for a few styling features, which we’ll discuss next.
The Camaro got a minor overhaul in 2019, but Chevy is still tweaking and improving this muscle car in 2020. The front-end styling is a bit different on the SS and all-new LT1 models. The bowtie emblem has been repositioned and the paint on the grille matches that on the body. The result is a more integrated, cohesive look.
Blistering Acceleration
The real reason to buy a muscle car, besides those sporty looks, is a need for speed. And the 2020 Chevy Camaro heartily doles out the acceleration. Even the base 275-horsepower four-cylinder engine can go from zero to 60 in 5.1 seconds. There’s also a 335-horsepower naturally aspirated V-6 that tames and focuses the Camaro’s power to a lightning-quick speed demon. Finally, the small-block V-8 found on the LT1 and above delivers 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. The best time is zero to 60 in just under 4 seconds, a testament to beautiful engine design by the Chevy team. No matter the engine, the Camaro provides nimble handling and a smooth ride, like the cool cat it is.
Abundant Standard Equipment
A new Chevy Camaro can be yours for the sweet low price of $25,000 - that’s low enough to be a starter car. And this isn’t some barebones knock-off. Chevy has stocked even the base Camaro with plenty of goodies. As we mentioned before, you get the 275-horsepower turbo-four engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Besides that, standard features include this impressive array of technology: automatic climate control, Teen Driver, rearview camera, Infotainment 3 system with 7-inch touch screen, six-speaker audio system, Wi-Fi hotspot, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. That’s a lot of great features you won’t find on most cars at this price point. The only significant downside to the base Camaro trim is that it's the only one not available as a convertible; but given all the other features we get, we’re willing to look to past it.
